What Is The Zone Diet Plan

Familiar with the Zone Diet? If you said “No,” you're not alone. This relatively cult diet phenomenon has helped hundreds to lose weight, but unlike some of the other more popular diet fads like South Beach and Atkins, it is regularly overlooked by those searching for a way to lose the excess weight causing problems in their lives.

The zone perfect diet was developed by Dr. Barry Sears, a PhD who was once an MIT researcher looking for a link to overcome the heart disease that was so rampant in his family. If you're thinking the Zone is the new kid on the block, you're certainly wrong there. It's more like the old guy down the street. This diet was unveiled in a 1995 book which was, at the time, a bestseller. Many people tried it with some success, but most went on to the next new diet fad, leaving the Zone diet in the dust.

An exercise in math, primarily. One of the reasons the Zone is so unpopular is that it requires more thought than most of the diets of today. For example, no particular food or snacking habit is off limits when you're in the zone, as long as your ratios are correct. A day's worth of food should be 40% carbohydrates, 30% fat, and 30% protein.

Meet that, and you're good to go with whatever you want to eat because this diet helps you to control your body's insulin levels, keeping you healthy and thin. Every meal and snack you eat must also meet those ratios. That, though, is also one of the primary problems with this diet. Since most of the dieters are graduates of American high schools who couldn't pass math class, figuring out what that forty-thirty-thirty ratio actually equals on the plate is a real problem. As a result, many invest in software, food calculators or meal plans to help figure out what can and cannot be eaten at any given time of the day. Moreover, the weight loss with this plan isn't as quick as it is with others, and ideas like counting calories and exercise are encouraged.

The simple truth here is that the Zone diet does work. It works quite well. However, if you didn't pass math, or you need a refresher course to figure out what the word “ratio” means, this probably isn't the best diet for your time.
